Aligning Stars
Ten years ago, David joined a major U.S. tech company's Belgian branch, feeling he'd found his professional home. The energy, innovation, and camaraderie resonated with him. He thrived in the dynamic international environment, leveraging his tech expertise on a global stage.
As years passed, the company grew into a behemoth, barely resembling the organization he'd loved. David found himself trying to fit into a role that no longer suited him.
In our first coaching session, David expressed his frustration. When asked what he wanted, he replied, "I don't know." We began peeling back layers of expectation and habit, helping David reconnect with his core values, strengths, and needs.
As his self-awareness grew, so did his restlessness. Leaving his high-paying tech job seemed daunting, but we worked on expanding his view of possibilities.
The turning point came at a friend's barbecue, where David met John, a local engineering school director. Describing his situation, John suggested, "We're always looking for industry professionals to teach our students. Have you considered becoming an instructor?"
The idea struck David like lightning, aligning with everything we'd been working on. He visualized a path leading from the tech world to the classroom.
Transitioning meant a pay cut and unfamiliar territory, but David felt a sense of rightness he hadn't experienced in years. He accepted a job offer from the school and gave notice to his company.
In our final session, David reflected, "I always thought finding the right job was about shaping yourself to fit the role. But now I realize it's about finding the role that fits you.”
David had come full circle - a square peg who'd found his perfect square hole again, on his own terms. His journey was more than a transition; it was a homecoming - a return to his authentic self. In that authenticity, he found not just a new career, but a new lease on life.
